What kind of leather do you use?

We use 100% second sourced cowhide that is eco tanned here in the US and Italy :) we have some full-grain, some top-grain, and some skived down thinner leathers...it really depends on the colors. Our tanneries use cutting edge water filtration systems, reducing the carbon footprint of the tanning process drastically, and only natural tanning components.

All leather has normal distress marks such as scratches, freckles, moles stretch marks, etc. All these marks represent the life of the animal, and part of the eco-tanning process is not adding a synthetic coat over the natural markings of the hide of the animal. Distress will be present on all items, just as it is on our on bodies.

Though we realize this may not be the look for everyone, if you wish for a less distressed bag please notify us in advance so we can offer possible leather colors to better meet your needs!

What is waxed canvas?

We use a 20 oz waxed canvas, sourced from our US distributor. The canvas does come waxed with a proprietary blend of natural waxes including beeswax. With this comes a naturally distressed look to the bag, creating a marbled two-toned look (with lighter marks) throughout the bag. This is natural and will last throughout the life of the bag.


Leather Care Instructions

No need to treat your leather with anything. It comes pretreated during the Eco tanning process from our distributors. The only thing we ever recommend putting on your item is a small amount of natural Beeswax leather conditioner to buff out scratches. A little goes a long way.

Process Time

In Blue Handmade is a small manufacturing/crafting team. We make every item to order based on your choices at checkout. We like to give ourselves around 2 weeks to complete a bag, though most ship out sooner. Two weeks helps to allow us to adjust to distributor and supply chain timelines and let's us create your bag just for you! If you need something quicker, we can often accommodate that, but please reach out to find out more.

Returns/Exchanges

We do accept returns and exchanges on most items (with the exception of custom or personalized orders). While we offer free shipping to our customers within the USA, the customer is responsible for return postage. Exceptions to this are defective or damaged items, in which case we are able to provide a shipping label if you are within the USA. Returns and exchanges must be initiated within 2 weeks of receiving the item.
